Women of Substance : Inspiring Women in STEM
An evening networking event on Wednesday 27th January 2010 at 6pm.
'Women of Substance: Inspiring Women in STEM' is kindly being hosted by The Royal Institution of Great Britain at 21 Albemarle Street, London W1S 4BS.
Sweep away the winter blues at the newly refurbished Royal Institution at this cross-network event where women, art, science and technology will meet.
What will this decade be called? The tweenies, tens, or teens? Whatever we decide to call it, there is no doubt that science, engineering and technology (SET) will play a huge role in shaping the decade. And there is no doubt that woman have a track record of contribution in the SET fields and have the opportunity to shape and define the decade.
Please join us, along with European Professional Women's Network (London)and the womenintechnology.co.uk, at the Royal Institution to be inspired and hear success stories from our awesome line up of panellists. Help us answer the critical question: “How can we empower the next generation of women to become scientists, engineers and technologists?” Our key note speaker will be Lynda Armstrong, Technical Vice President at Shell International and she will be joined by panellists Christine Ashton, Group Strategy Director at Transport for London, Julie Greensmith, Lecturer in the School of Computer Science at the University of Nottingham and Bee Thakore, Founder of Big on Good Solutions. The panellists will discuss the role of women in technology and science, the importance of engaging with IT and technology more widely, the value in being a role model and what they believe were the key success factors in their careers.
On display during the event will be a selection of paintings from Tess Barnes’ solo exhibition ‘Women of Substance’ featuring 50 portraits of some of the most successful and inspirational women of our times. As this event is not sponsored by a corporate host, there will be a cost of £16.00 to attend which includes your entrance to the event, access to the recently refurbished Royal Institution and their permanent exhibition, drinks (wine or soft drinks), a selection of snacks and the opportunity to watch an RI demonstration during the post-event networking.
